Wolf-Gordon Collaborates with Museum of New Mexico For Origins Collection Update
New Pattern Inspired by Traditional Weaving
| New York, NY - September 2, 2021 | Wolf-Gordon debuts Laguna, the newest addition to their Origins collection of patterns inspired by textiles from the Museum of New Mexico. Laguna marks the company’s ongoing collaboration with the Museum, which started in 2007 and has led to the development of over twenty wallcovering patterns.
Laguna explores the majesty and allure of New Mexico’s dramatic, weathered landscape. Its large-scale striations and natural hues are reminiscent of Southwestern rock formations, but also pay homage to the region’s rich weaving heritage. Laguna’s soft linear bands are inspired by those found in woven Mexican serapes and traditional Navajo wool blankets, both of which are featured in the museum’s collection. Stripes figure in many culture's weavings and certainly are an integral design feature to both Mexican and Navajo weavings. The pattern's name; Laguna refers to the name of a Native community in New Mexico and one Mexico.
“We are grateful that our Wolf-Gordon Design Studio has again had the opportunity to collaborate with the Museum of New Mexico; we find no shortage of inspiration in the rich visual narrative of their collections and environment. The expertise of the Museum’s staff help us to forge a deeper understanding and respect for craft and culture." Marybeth Shaw, Wolf-Gordon, CCO, Marketing & Design
"Wolf-Gordon’s Laguna is a wonderful example of how New Mexico’s distinct topography and craft tradition continue to have a profound effect on visual culture. We are excited to share our passion and perspective and love to see how centuries-old techniques are interpreted in modern ways." Pamela Kelly, MoNM Foundation, VP of Licensing & Brand Management
Consistent with Wolf-Gordon’s efforts to increase its library of sustainable offerings, Laguna is a Type II wallcovering produced from 34% pre-consumer and 6% post-consumer recycled content. It is free of conflict minerals, heavy metals, PFC/PFOA/PFOS, phthalates, and solvents and is bleach cleanable. Laguna is produced in seven nature inspired colorways.
